Sibaya
Sunset: ±
3½ hours
Back
Lake
Sibaya is situated on the seaward margin of the low-lying Mozambique plain in
Eastern Maputaland. It is the largest freshwater lake in South Africa, where
you may experience
an African Sunset. Invariably you might see Hippo's and even Crocodiles while
you listen to the natural sounds of Africa. It also boasts many other types of
life in and around it's waters including the Sibaya Goby. Some of the bird
species to be found are the splendid Fish Eagle (what do they eat?), White
Breasted Cormorant, Kingfishers, Hornbills and many more. In the coastal dunes
which separate the lake form the sea the Red Duiker and the Vulnerable and
elusive Suni can be found. |

Lake
Ngoboseleni±
2½ hours
Back
Lake
Ngoboseleni is unlike any other estuarine system in south Africa. It is
connected with Lake Shazibi in the north (Situated just behind Sodwana Bay
Lodge) and together flow through an extensive swamp forest and reed swamp.
Eventually they flow into the sea at Jesser Point. The Lake also boasts a
small population of Crocodiles and a few Hippo. Bird life is excellent
around the lake and there is a big variety of indigenous trees and
flowers. What could be better than sitting on a hill with the sea in the
distance, the lake before you and a beautiful African sunset behind
you? |

Bhangazi: ±

Travelling
towards this lake the drive takes you through open coastal grassland with
a few scattered thickets of Lala Palm, Flat crown Albizia amongst others.
Reedbuck, Grey Duiker and Steen buck are some of the Antelope that can be
seen. This area is one of the few places in South Africa where you can see
the Side stripe Jackal. You can also see Zebra. For the bird watcher there
are many species including the Stanley Bustard, the Pink throated Long claws
and many raptors. |

Turtle
Trips: ±
6 hours - depending on the tide
Back
Sodwana
is rightly renowned for the five species of Turtles that visit our shores. Two
of which, the Loggerhead and the Leatherback visit every year during
the months of November through to March, to lay
their eggs. It is a privilege to be able to see these ancient creatures come
ashore and nest as they have done for centuries. Our tour is designed to give the least possible
interference to the turtle,
whilst still showing you this truly wonderful insight into the Turtles existence. You can be one of the
privileged few to see these turtles nest and
hatch. There are only a few of these sites in the world and Maputaland
boasts the longest running protection programs for turtles in the world. |

Kosi
Bay: All
Day
Back
Situated
almost on the Mozambique border, Kosi Bay is one of the most fascinating places in
Maputaland. Made up of four lakes of varying sizes, it is home
to the Raffia Palm and the extremely rare Palm nut Vulture which only occur
here in South Africa. Kosi Bay also boasts the fact that it is the only
area to have all five types of South African mangroves. Another big
attraction is to see the local fisherman spear their fish in their unique
fish "kraals". |

Hluhluwe/Umfolozi: All
Day
Back
We
will take you to this magnificent game park run by the KwaZulu Natal Nature
Conservation Service . This park is famous for its Rhino population.
It
takes just over an hour to get there but it is well worth the wait. Obviously we
can't guarantee what you will see, but we would be very surprised if you don't
see Rhino's, Elephants, Buffalo, Giraffe and other game. You may also see Lion
and Leopard if you are lucky. The park is also a haven for ornithologists. The
scenery alone is worth the trip but with the game as well, it really is a
fantastic day out.

Obviously we can't guarantee what you will see but the wide open plains, large

also a short trail around the old fig trees.
If
bird watching is your forte you will not be disappointed.
