SODWANA BAY
Sodwana
Bay is considered to be the premier dive site in South Africa and is the only
tropical dive site in South Africa. Sodwana is one of the few places world-wide
where dive sites are reached by weaving a path through breaking waves. This
thrilling experience adds to the excitement of the dive.

VISIBILITY
The
average yearly visibility is 12m. It can get as good as 40m . The reason for
this is that there are no rivers running into the sea in this area. The rivers
pollute the sea in other areas sometimes suspending all diving , especially after
heavy, prolonged rain.
The
diving is all year round. In summer the water temperature can reach 29° C . The lowest
it gets is 20° C.

FISHING
Although
it is considered by many to be mainly a dive destination, Sodwana is actually
just as well know for its
excellent fishing. Either from the shore or from purpose built fishing ski
boats. Many game fish are caught here.
Large Marlin are also caught, examples of
which can be seen in the Leatherback restaurant in Sodwana Bay Lodge

GAME PARKS
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, Mkuze
and Tembe Elephant Game Parks are within easy reach on tarred roads. You
are almost guaranteed (almost!!) to see Rhino in Hluhluwe and Elephants in
Tembe. Please note that Tembe is for 4x4 only.
There are
many things to do for the non diver such as tours to nearby game parks or
sundowners at Lake Sibaya, the largest freshwater lake in South Africa.
You can also go on Horse
rides, either on the beach or in the surrounding area.
